A man who tried to get away without paying for a £12.70 train journey has been hit in the pocket for more than £300. Southern Derbyshire Magistrates' Court heard how Daniel Birks failed to pay for a ticket on a trip between Leicester and Derby on May 4. The 29-year-old, of Bangor Street, Chaddesden, pleaded guilty to the offence and was fined £24.
