A man who tried to get away without paying for a £12.70 train journey has been hit in the pocket for more than £300.
Southern Derbyshire Magistrates' Court heard how Daniel Birks failed to pay for a ticket on a trip between Leicester and Derby on May 4.
The 29-year-old, of Bangor Street, Chaddesden, pleaded guilty to the offence and was fined £24.

A canoeist remains in a critical condition after an incident in the River Derwent on Sunday, January 3.
At around 12.45pm, a 32-year-old man was canoeing in the River Derwent in Matlock, near to Crown Square, when he got into difficulty.

There is heavy traffic on the A610 in Derbyshire because of an accident.
The A610 in Ripley is partially blocked and traffic is moving slowly in both directions at the B6441 Nottingham Road junction, because of the accident which involved four vehicles.
