AN explosion in Derby city centre was not caused by gas, firefighters revealed tonight.
A blast at Kenneth House, in Agard Street, was initially believed to have been caused by a gas leak.
But following an investigation, station manager Terry Lambert, incident commander for Derbyshire Fire and Rescue Service, said that was not the case.

The incident happened at around 10.30am at Kenneth House in Agard Street.
Flats resident Chris Bottomley, 55, said: "I heard an almighty bang. It was a hell of shock and the whole building shook.

We didn't need pensions as an incentive, says ex-Derby councillor
UNTIL I read that councillors are to have their pensions scrapped "Scrapping our pension is a blow to democracy" (March 14), I did not know they enjoyed such a perk.At the risk of being accused of sour grapes, when I served on the old Derby Borough Council in the 70s, I did not get thousands of pounds in allowances and very little in expenses. Fire engine overturns in Derbyshire leaving one firefighter...
A FIRE engine with a crew of four left the road and overturned this morning, leaving one male firefighter injured.

Swarkestone bridge: Long-awaited bypass 'not likely before 2020'
THE multi-million-pound bypass to divert traffic away from battered Swarkestone Causeway is unlikely to be built before 2020.
Derbyshire County Council hopes to secure Government money next year to pay for the scheme.
However, bosses at the Labour-led authority said it will take a further five years at least for the bypass to be built.

Derby jobless figure rises for second month in succession
DERBY'S jobs market still seems to be suffering something of a hangover from Christmas.
Before he delivered his Budget speech, Chancellor George Osborne was buoyed by the latest UK unemployment figures.
They showed that unemployment dropped by 63,000 to 2.33 million in three months to January, with the jobless rate at 7.2%.

The mobile phone network EE is "working hard" to fix what is thought to be a significant signal outage.

Youngsters smash up Borrowash allotments to cause 'hell'
CHILDREN have been caught on CCTV, smashing up allotments in Borrowash.
The Elm Street allotments are broken into and vandalised about every month, according to members.
In the latest incident, at 7.30am on Sunday, a knife was taken and greenhouse windows were smashed.
