EXPLOSIONS of colour and pounding drums have filled Derby as this year's Caribbean Carnival began.
The events began with a parade through St Peter's Street, which took place just before 3pm.
Floats playing up-tempo West Indian songs streamed past rapt crowds, punctuated by troupes of dancers, all clothed in spectacular, colourful outfits.
The party carries on until 9pm tonight in Market Place and will also take place on Sunday from 1pm to 9pm at Osmaston Park.
