Head teachers in England are being urged to ban packed lunches on the grounds they are "nearly always less nutritious than a cooked meal".
In a bid to increase the take-up of school dinners and promote healthy eating, a government-commissioned school food review has suggested stopping pupils bringing in food from home.
The School Food Plan found the take-up of school dinners is low, at 43 per cent, "despite huge quality improvements".
